A pool with an attached spa is one of the most requested builds we get at LiquidLux. Homeowners across Plano, Frisco, McKinney, and Dallas want to know: how much does it add to the total cost, what design styles work best, and is it worth it? Here is an honest breakdown from a builder who does this every day.

Why Add a Spa to Your Custom Pool?

Texas summers are brutal — but Texas winters are short and mild enough that you will actually use a spa. A heated spa extends your outdoor season from about 4 months to nearly 10 months per year. Beyond comfort, a spa adds a strong visual focal point to the design, increases resale value, and creates a resort-like atmosphere in your own backyard.

In our experience, homeowners who add a spa rarely regret it. Those who skip it often call us back 2–3 years later asking if it can be retrofitted (it can, but it costs more and takes longer than building it the first time).

The 3 Main Spa Design Styles

1. Attached / Spillover Spa

The most popular choice. The spa sits elevated next to the pool and water spills over the edge into the pool below. This creates a visual water feature and keeps the spa water circulating. It is efficient, stunning, and the most cost-effective spa configuration to build.

2. Raised / Raised Beam Spa

A raised spa sits higher than a standard spillover — often 24–36 inches above the pool deck — and may be surrounded by travertine or coping on all sides. It makes a bold architectural statement and works especially well in modern or geometric pool designs, like the build you see above.

3. Freestanding or Detached Spa

A separate spa positioned apart from the pool — sometimes under a pergola or in a distinct area of the yard. This allows for totally independent operation and gives each area its own purpose. It does require separate plumbing and equipment, which increases the cost.

LiquidLux tip: If you are unsure which spa style is right for your lot, ask us during your free 3D design consultation. We model all three options so you can see exactly how each one looks in your specific backyard before we break ground.

What Does a Pool + Spa Combo Cost in DFW?

LiquidLux pool and spa combos typically range from $85,000 to $140,000+ for a complete build in Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Allen, and surrounding North Texas communities. Here is how that breaks down:

How Long Does It Take to Build?

A custom pool and spa combo in North Texas takes an average of 14–20 weeks from permit approval to final walkthrough. Adding a spa typically adds 1–2 weeks to the overall timeline versus a pool-only build, because of the additional plumbing, equipment, and coping work involved. We provide a detailed week-by-week timeline before we begin, so you always know what is happening and when.

Spa Features Worth Considering

Not all spas are built the same. Here are the upgrades our clients are happiest with:

Is a Pool + Spa Combo Worth It?

For most North Texas homeowners: yes. A spa adds meaningful value — both in how much you enjoy your backyard and in resale. Homes in Plano, Frisco, and McKinney with a well-designed pool and spa consistently attract stronger offers than comparable homes without one. The best time to add a spa is when you build the pool, not after.

We built the pool and spa in the aerial photo above right here in DFW — a geometric design with a raised spa, travertine coping, artificial turf surround, and smart automation. Projects like this are what we do every day at LiquidLux.
